May J. is a singer. She is half Iranian on her mother's side.
In July 2021 she announced that she has begun a new musical project, titled "DarkPop", produced by Shinoda Miru. This marks a transition into more western pop and R&B influences, compared to her previous J-pop ballad style.

- She is multiracial, as her father is a Japanese man from the Kansai region, but of Persian, Spanish, Russian, British and Turkish descent, her mother is Iranian living in Japan, her maternal grandmother is Russian of Azerbaijani and Turkish descent and her maternal grandfather is of Iranian, Spanish and British descent.
- She speaks English at a native level, and can also speak some Spanish and Persian.
- On June 20, 2022, she announced her marriage to Japanese actor Shogen. They had registered their marriage on the same date, which is both of their birthdays.[1][2][3]
- On May 12, 2023, she announced that she was expecting the couple's first child.[4] On November 16, she announced the birth of her first child.[5][6]
